How to green clean your shower
Removing hard water stains from a shower or glass. Mechanical cleaning vs chemical cleaning.
EXTERIOR CLEANING QUESTIONS/ANSWERS
Removing hard water stains from a glass surface is a money maker for companies that produce and sell cleaning products. The reality is that most of the products sold for this purpose are not real effective at actually removing the stains. There is an old saying "In order to change something, you must understand how it works".
When water repeatedly rolls over a glass surface, it leaves deposits in the pores of the glass. As time goes on, these deposits settle in the pores and become more difficult to remove. As we have discussed in previous articles, there are two ways to clean a surface (mechanically and chemically). To effectively clean cloudy a glass surface infested with hard water deposits, chemical solutions for the most part will be ineffective. The surface must be mechanically cleaned.
At Floblu we have experimented with a variety of ways to remove these deposits from glass. The most effective way to do it is to use a Pumice Stone. Get a Pumice Stone (doesn't matter where or what kind, CVS or Walgreens has them for about six bucks). Get a small container of water and dunk the stone in it, then gently place the stone against the glass surface and begin to rub the stone in a circular motion against the glass. You will notice the build up of a soapy looking lather forming on the surface of the glass. Rinse with water and repeat until the glass is clear. Once you have completed the entire surface you can spray some glass cleaner on it and buff it to a crystal clear shine.
When you do this make sure to keep the stone wet as it provides lubrication. Feel free to contact us for all your cleaning related needs.
